Rev. Gérard Nsabimana is an ordained Elder in the Oklahoma Conference of the United Methodist Church. Prior to moving to Stroud First United Methodist Church, he served as the director of the Wesley Foundation at University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond. He also served as the interim pastor at Wellston United Methodist Church from February 1st until June 1st, 2014. Gérard completed his seminary education at Duke Divinity School in Durham, North Carolina in May 2011. Before enrolling at Duke University, Gérard was the Coordinator of International Student Ministries of the Wesley Foundation at Oklahoma State University. Prior to employment with the Wesley Foundation he was an intern at the Wesley Foundation at Oklahoma State University while he completed graduate studies in Agricultural Economics.  Gérard is also a graduate of Africa University – a United Methodist related institution of higher education located in Zimbabwe. It is at Africa University where Gérard earned a Bachelor Degree of Science in Agriculture and Natural Resources in May 2002. Gérard is a native of the small east African Country called Burundi.  In 1993 when Gérard graduated from High School civil war broke out and claimed the life of literally hundreds and thousands of his neighbors.  Gérard fled his home country in 1995 and has lived in several African countries including Kenya, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe. The civil war in Burundi that erupted in 1993 after the assassination of the first democratically elected president of Burundi has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives. The same civil war has claimed lives from Gérard’s own family. Gérard hopes to serve the United Methodist Church with hope of combining both agriculture and ministry. He loves people and mostly loves Christ who calls his followers to love one another. He also loves sharing his love of God with others as he serves them. Gérard believes that reconciliation and forgiveness are key elements to Christian discipleship. The ministries of forgiveness and reconciliation are very dear to Gérard’s heart. He enjoys teaching on such topics as he also shares his personal faith journey and how he discerned his call to full-time ministry. Gérard is married to Alina Nsabimana who also graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2008. Gérard and Alina were married on December 28, 2012.
